Camping Weekend Report

This year's camping weekend was fully booked before the event started giving our camping field the appearance of a small village. Section members had been over on the Thursday to erect the 2 gazebos and other miscellaneous signs and markers.

Campers arrived on the Thursday and Friday with the event starting on the Friday with the arrival of the fish and chip van and the opening of the bar. The weather was promised to be stormy on the Friday and then a dry weekend; this time the forecasters got it spot on. Just before the fish and chip van arrived we were hit by a heavy shower and then no more for the rest of the weekend. Cliff Arthur finished off the evening with a number of music hall songs.Douglas

The Saturday route was entered by 39 riders and passengers going on a country lane route to Southwold Harbour where they would spend a couple of hours enjoying the sea side town and harbour. The return route brought them back across the north of Suffolk and then back into Norfolk. There was one minor breakdown which was recovered on the trailer.Stan's Indian

In the evening the BBQ and salad bar were well supported as was the refreshment room, the evening being closed out by Cliff Arthur playing music hall songs and nursery rhymes for the children on the site.

The Sunday run was a local run staying within 20 miles of the campsite stopping off at Richard & Jaquie's house for coffee and a chat. On their return the BBQ and salad bar were in full swing until early afternoon.Morgan

The event was finished off by a gymkhana, this had 6 entrants willing to have a go at the various parts of the competition, the first being the Limbo competition then the Zig Zag followed by the Ball and Bucket and finally the Slow Race. The Office

Points were awarded throughout the competition to arrive at the final winner, this being with 20 points Roy Arthur closely followed with 19 points by Clyde Cardy. Roy received the Gymkhana Award donated by Grace to the Section and a bottle of wine, Clyde received a bottle of wine, all the entrants were well supported by the audience. The report cannot come to a close without mentioning one of the many small mishaps that make the event enjoyable, this being the over inflation of an airbed lent by another for Derek's grand children. After taking so much time for the first one to inflate he thought it would be a good idea to have a word with Ted Cotton at the top of the field, Ted got out his picture library and time was forgotten. Oh dear what a sorry sight, as on his return Mary said that the pump must have broken as the air bed was still flat. On close inspection even a tyre repair outfit could not mend it, the hardest part for Derek was to explain away the mishap. Jokes about lying low and inflated prices abounded all weekend, all in good fun of course.
