Lou Oliver Waveney Valley Run
The annual visit to the East Anglian Transport Museum made a fitting start to this year's Lou Oliver Waveney Valley Run. The steam roller "Stormer"was being warmed up for its first run of the year in the Lowestoft Carnival, it takes about an hour to get to Lowestoft as the roller has a top speed of 4 mph!
The machines and riders had their pictiures taken in front of a smoky "Stormer" before setting off into the countryside.
This year the route took them south of the museum towards Sotterley and then west through Brampton Station. The last part of the route went through the remains of Flixton Airfield, only a few remains of the control tower are left.
On coming back into the Waveney Valley the route came into Wortwell and then down into the flood plain turning south again to Mendham.
The lunch stop was at The Sir Alfred Munnings public house where we were made welcome.
The return route took the riders into St Cross and then south to Rumburgh heading finally east through Weston, Hulver and Mutford returning back to the Museum.
The awards for the run were :-
Highest Combined Age: Dave Turner
Youngest Rider: Paul Codling
Most Desirable Machine: Paul Griffin
Youngest Passenger: Rhyanan Richards (special award made by Greg and Diane)
Our thanks go to the East Anglia Transport Museum for hosting us, Cynthia for the paperwork, Jimmy and Brian for checking the route, Bob for devising the route and backup and finally all the riders, passengers and supporters who came along.
Picures of the riders and machines are can be seen by going to Waveney Valley Run Picture Gallery
