Broadland Run

The penultimate Run of the year was the Broadland Run starting from Postwick Village Hall on the lucky date of 10/10/10. The weather was being kind to the 22 riders and 4 passengers as the day started with clear skies and stayed that way all day.Line up at the start

This was John Essam's first Run who with Tony and Cynthia's help with the route and paperwork produced a cracking day on some roads none of us had seen before out onto the Halvergate Marshes and beyond, some times not intentionally.TriumphT120 Bonneville

With these small lanes there was little sign posting using road names or mileage as the clue, it was the first time I had seen arrows on road signs telling you which road to take.

The Morgan ended up in a three wheel drift in slurry at one point coming into a dairy farm, I am not sure how the solo's managed.Reedham Swing Bridge

The route took us past Cantley along the river to Reedham where a swing bridge allows the trains to cross the Yare. As I was leaving the bridge was swung round to allow a yacht to sail through.

The next part of the route took us through Stokesby which is a ferry crossing point over the river Bure and we then headed towards The Lion Inn at Thurne which has a magnificent wind pump called the Thurne Dyke Windpump.Group Photograph at the Thurne Dyke wind pump

Lunch at the Lion was very good with prompt service, the landlord offering us the opportunity to go onto the private land at the wind pump to take a group photograph. The landlord had advertised our arrival and had a good turnout of interested patrons.

The return route took us across to the coast road via Potter Heigham and Hickling before we came back inland through Dilham over its disused canal, through Wroxham then past the Fur & Feather at Woodbastwick, well known for its brewery.

On arrival back at John and Diane's we were welcomed by a variety of cakes and sausage rolls. Our thanks go to John and Diane for the route, Richard for the backup, Tony for checking the route and Cynthia for organising the paperwork.
